Pratt Institute: Window Replacement

Talisen Construction partnered with Pratt Institute and Matiz Architecture & Design to undertake a comprehensive window replacement project at 203 Grand Avenue in Brooklyn, NY. This $2.6 million initiative focused on improving the functionality and aesthetic of Pratt’s Brooklyn campus buildings, ensuring that they meet modern standards for energy efficiency, soundproofing, and weatherproofing.

Scope of Work

Talisen’s window replacement project at Pratt Institute involved the meticulous planning and execution of several key elements to ensure the success and safety of the renovation:

  • Replacement of 150+ windows
  • Coordinated logistics and planning
  • Upgraded soundproofing and weatherproofing

Replacement of Over 100 Windows

Talisen replaced more than 100 windows across campus, significantly upgrading the energy efficiency and soundproofing of Pratt’s buildings. The project team carefully selected the new windows to match the architectural style of the historic campus while providing modern performance benefits.

Coordinated Logistics & Planning

Ensuring the safety of students and faculty was paramount throughout the project. Talisen Construction implemented a strategic logistics plan to minimize disruption, coordinating closely with Pratt Institute to ensure the work was carried out smoothly and efficiently.

Upgraded Soundproofing & Weatherproofing

The new windows feature advanced soundproofing and weatherproofing technology, significantly improving indoor comfort levels by reducing noise pollution and enhancing protection against the elements.

Key Features & Project Highlights

  • Enhanced Campus Environment: Replacing over 100 windows across campus has remarkably improved students’ and faculty’s learning and living environment by reducing noise and enhancing energy efficiency.
  • Seamless Integration with Campus Life: Talisen Construction’s careful planning and execution allowed the project to be completed with minimal disruption to daily campus activities, maintaining a safe and secure environment for all.
  • Improved Energy Efficiency: The upgraded windows not only improve soundproofing but also contribute to the overall energy efficiency of the buildings, aligning with Pratt Institute’s commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility.

Challenges & Solutions

Safety & Minimizing Disruption

A key challenge of this window replacement endeavor was executing the project to ensure the campus community’s safety while minimizing disruption to academic and residential life. Talisen’s team developed a phased approach to the project, coordinating work schedules to avoid peak activity times and implementing safety measures to keep students and faculty safe.

Maintaining Architectural Integrity

Another challenge was installing windows that complemented the historic architecture of Pratt Institute’s campus. Talisen worked closely with Matiz Architecture & Design to choose window designs that preserve the buildings’ aesthetic integrity while providing modern functionality.

Project Outcome

The successful completion of the Pratt Institute Window Replacement project marks a significant improvement in the campus environment. With over 100 new windows featuring enhanced soundproofing and weatherproofing, the buildings at 203 Grand Avenue are now more comfortable, energy-efficient, and better equipped to withstand the elements.

Talisen Construction’s commitment to safety, quality, and meticulous planning ensured that the project was delivered on time and to the highest standards, contributing to Pratt Institute’s mission of providing an exceptional learning environment.
