22 Little W 12th Street

Located in New York City’s historic Meatpacking District, 22 Little West 12th Street has a rich history. Originally opened in 1908 as a stable, the historic building has since evolved to host high-end boutiques and modern office spaces. Talisen Construction was tasked with transforming the ground floor into a fresh, ultramodern corporate interior for the prestigious hair care brand Oribe. The project spanned 5,000 square feet and required a careful balance of preserving the building’s historic charm while introducing contemporary design elements.

Key Features

With the help of JL Design Associates and OLA Consulting Engineers, Talisen transformed 22 Little West 12th Street into a sleek corporate space for Oribe, involving several key elements:

  • Ultra Modern Corporate Interior: The design aimed to create a stylish and functional workspace that aligns with Oribe’s brand identity.
  • Reworked Electrical Systems: The existing electrical infrastructure was updated to support modern office requirements.
  • Open Ceilings: The neatly done open ceilings added a sense of spaciousness and modernity to the space.
  • Floating Wood Flooring: The installation of floating wood flooring provided a contemporary and elegant touch.
  • Exposed Brick Walls: Exposed brick walls helped maintain the building’s historic character while adding a rustic charm.
  • Upgraded Elevator Banks and Entrance: Enhancements to the elevator banks and entrance ensured a seamless and welcoming transition into the space.

Challenges & Solutions

Transforming a historic building in the bustling Meatpacking District into a modern corporate space came with its own set of challenges. Talisen Construction’s team approached these challenges with meticulous planning and innovative solutions.

Preserving Historic Charm

One of the primary challenges was preserving the building’s historic charm while incorporating modern design elements. The design team worked closely with Talisen Construction to ensure that the new features complemented the building’s original architecture. This included retaining the exposed brick walls and integrating them into the modern design.

Upgrading Electrical Systems

Updating the electrical systems in an old building can be complex. Talisen’s engineers carefully reworked the existing electrical infrastructure to meet contemporary standards and support the technological needs of a modern office. This included installing new wiring, outlets, and lighting systems while ensuring minimal disruption to the building’s structure.

Open Ceilings

Creating open ceilings in a historic building required careful consideration to maintain structural integrity while achieving the desired aesthetic. Talisen’s construction team meticulously planned the ceiling modifications to enhance the sense of space and modernity without compromising the building’s stability.

Floating Wood Flooring

The installation of floating wood flooring added a sophisticated touch to the office space. Talisen’s craftsmen ensured that the flooring was flawlessly installed, providing a smooth and elegant surface that complemented the overall design.

Strict Building Parameters

Working within the constraints of a historic building in a busy district presented logistical challenges. Talisen Construction had to adhere to strict building parameters to avoid disturbing the building’s occupants. This required precise coordination and efficient scheduling to complete the project on time.

Project Outcome

Despite the challenges posed by strict building parameters, Talisen Construction completed the entire project in just under two months. This efficient turnaround was made possible by meticulous planning, effective communication, and the skilled execution of the construction team.

The completed project at 22 Little West 12th Street stands as a testament to Talisen Construction’s ability to blend historic preservation with modern innovation. The new corporate interior for Oribe is both stylish and functional, reflecting the brand’s luxurious image while honoring the building’s storied past.
