Pratt Institute: Film School Expansion

Transforming Academic Space into a State-of-the-Art Media Hub

Talisen Construction partnered with OTJ Architects and Pratt Institute to deliver a turnkey renovation of approximately 5,000 square feet within the Brooklyn campus, converting a portion of the Film & Media Department into a modern, multi-functional production and collaboration environment. The comprehensive project was completed in just 12 weeks, encompassing full MEP and finish upgrades alongside precise coordination of AV and acoustic systems.

Scope of Work

Key elements of the scope included:

  • Installation of new HVAC, electrical, lighting, fire protection, and low-voltage/AV infrastructure

  • Integration of custom acoustic ceiling baffles and dynamic lighting control systems

  • Deployment of a Modernfold glass partition system to enclose the screening room when needed, providing both flexibility and acoustic separation

  • Fit-out of a production classroom with retractable studio lighting, digital workstations, and AV controls

  • Fabrication and installation of custom millwork, casework, and solid-surface finishes

  • Addition of student lounge and pantry areas to enhance comfort and informal collaboration

  • Code compliance, safety, and accessibility upgrades throughout

Project Outcome

The completed renovation transformed the Film & Media Department into a state-of-the-art teaching and creative hub. The reimagined spaces now support a range of academic and production activities, from film screenings and digital media courses to collaborative post-production work. Thoughtful integration of acoustical design, vibrant finishes, and movable glass partitions allows faculty and students to adapt the environment for both group and individual projects. Delivered on schedule, the project underscores Talisen’s ability to execute complex, high-precision renovations in active campus settings.
